Varicose veins develop when weakened vein valves allow blood to move backward and collect in the legs. The increased pressure can contribute to raised veins, swelling, heaviness, aching, itching, cramping, and other symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency.
Northlake had an estimated population of 12,036 in 2025, with approximately 8,293 adults. Based on published adult prevalence estimates, roughly 1,990 Northlake adults may have visible varicose veins and about 498 may show evidence of more advanced chronic venous disease.

Spider veins are smaller vessels close to the skin and often appear as red, blue, or purple lines. Varicose veins are larger, may bulge or twist, and can be associated with aching, swelling, heaviness, or cramping.
Sclerotherapy is commonly used for selected spider veins. A medical solution is placed into the vein so it closes and gradually fades. The number of treatments depends on the size, number, and location of the veins.
Spider veins can develop because of genetics, aging, pregnancy, hormonal changes, prolonged sitting or standing, or increased pressure in the venous system. They may appear alone or alongside larger varicose veins.
Most spider veins are not dangerous and may be mainly cosmetic. An evaluation is more important when they occur with swelling, pain, skin changes, or larger varicose veins because deeper venous reflux may also be present.
The best treatment depends on the vein causing the problem. A vein specialist considers symptoms, vein anatomy, ultrasound findings, and medical history before recommending ablation, VenaSeal, sclerotherapy, or another option.
