Chronic venous insufficiency can develop when valves inside the leg veins stop closing effectively. Blood may then move backward and increase pressure in the lower legs, contributing to swelling, aching, heaviness, itching, cramping, skin changes, and visible varicose veins.
Irving has an estimated 257,076 residents, including approximately 189,722 adults. Applying published national adult prevalence estimates suggests that roughly 45,533 adults may have visible varicose veins and about 11,383 may show evidence of more advanced chronic venous disease. These modeled figures do not represent diagnosed Irving patients.

A commute by itself does not cause varicose veins. Long uninterrupted periods of sitting may make existing heaviness or swelling more noticeable, while genetics, age, pregnancy, weight, and vein-valve function are important risk factors.
A vein specialist reviews symptoms, medical history, and physical findings and may use duplex ultrasound to evaluate blood flow and identify valves that allow blood to move backward.
Compression stockings can reduce aching, swelling, and heaviness while they are worn. They may support symptom management, but they do not repair a damaged valve or permanently close a refluxing vein.
Spider veins are often a surface or cosmetic concern. If they occur with swelling, aching, heaviness, skin changes, or larger varicose veins, an evaluation can determine whether deeper venous reflux is also present.
Depending on the veins involved, treatment may include ClosureFast radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, Varithena microfoam, compounded sclerotherapy, or another targeted option guided by ultrasound findings.
