Damaged vein valves can allow blood to flow backward and create pressure in the lower legs. Over time, venous reflux may contribute to swelling, aching, heaviness, cramping, itching, skin changes, or bulging varicose veins. Symptoms are worth evaluating when they repeatedly interfere with daily life.
