Focused Vein Care for the Medical Center Community

People who live or work in the Medical Center area can receive specialized vein care at the nearby Texas Vein Experts clinic on Lockhill Selma Road. Our board-certified vein doctors evaluate varicose veins, spider veins, chronic venous insufficiency, and symptoms that may interfere with movement, work, or rest.

Long work shifts, extended periods of sitting, and spending much of the day on your feet can make vein symptoms more noticeable. Aching, ankle swelling, heaviness, burning, itching, nighttime cramps, and tired legs may indicate that blood is not moving efficiently through the leg veins.

When symptoms suggest an underlying circulation problem, diagnostic ultrasound can assess blood flow and identify valves that are allowing blood to move backward. This helps the vein doctor determine whether a deeper refluxing vein is contributing to discomfort or visible veins at the skin’s surface.

Our San Antonio vein clinic offers complimentary evaluations and works with most major medical insurance plans. Free insurance verification is available to help patients understand possible coverage through Medicare, Medicaid, HMO plans, and other providers.

Why Vein Symptoms Can Be Easy to Overlook

Approximately 24% of adults have visible varicose veins, while an estimated 6% show evidence of more advanced chronic venous disease.
The adopted Medical Center Area Regional Center Plan reports a residential population of approximately 39,000 people. The district also supports tens of thousands of jobs across hospitals, specialty institutions, educational campuses, and other major employers.
In a community where many residents and employees spend long periods standing, sitting, or moving between facilities, aching, swelling, heaviness, itching, and leg fatigue may be mistaken for the effects of a demanding day. However, persistent symptoms may be connected to weakened vein valves and venous reflux.
As vein disease progresses, some patients may develop skin discoloration, inflammation, bleeding, or leg ulcers that heal slowly. A professional evaluation can determine whether poor venous circulation is contributing to these concerns.

Stay Comfortable Through Long Shifts and Daily Routines

Denman Estate Park includes a half-mile walking trail, picnic areas, a labyrinth, a water feature, and a handcrafted Korean monument. The Medical Center area plan also identifies nearby parks, private running trails, and proposed greenway connections as important recreation resources.
Move between hospitals, clinics, and educational campuses

Relax near the park’s water feature and Korean monument
Use nearby walking and greenway trails
Manage commuting, appointments, and everyday errands
Return to family activities with limited disruption
Most treatments at the San Antonio vein clinic take less than 30 minutes, and many patients return to normal daily activities on the same day. Individual recovery guidance depends on the procedure and medical needs.

A Treatment Plan Guided by Diagnostic Ultrasound

Patients visit our San Antonio clinic with concerns ranging from cosmetic spider veins to painful varicose veins, ankle swelling, cramping, and leg heaviness. Before recommending care, the team reviews each patient’s symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals.
When appropriate, diagnostic ultrasound identifies weakened valves and shows whether a deeper vein is allowing blood to flow backward. This helps the vein doctor develop a treatment plan around the source of the condition rather than only the veins visible at the surface.
Treatment options may include radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, Varithena microfoam treatment, and compounded sclerotherapy. The recommended procedure depends on the affected veins, ultrasound findings, symptoms, and individual health needs.
These minimally invasive procedures are performed in the clinic and generally require little downtime. Patients also receive guidance with insurance verification, treatment preparation, and follow-up care.

Medical Center Spider and Varicose Vein FAQs

Texas Vein Experts serves Medical Center residents and employees from its San Antonio clinic at 1624 Lockhill Selma Rd. The clinic provides diagnostic evaluations and minimally invasive care for varicose veins, spider veins, and chronic venous insufficiency.

Varicose veins are swollen or twisted veins located just beneath the skin, usually in the legs. They develop when weakened walls or valves allow blood to flow backward and collect inside the vein.

Spider veins may develop because of genetics, aging, pregnancy, hormonal changes, prolonged sitting or standing, or increased pressure within the veins. They may occur alone or alongside larger varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy is commonly used to treat spider veins. A medical solution is injected into the selected veins, causing them to close and gradually fade. The number of sessions needed depends on the size, number, and location of the veins.

Spider veins are small red, blue, or purple vessels that usually remain flat near the skin’s surface. Varicose veins are larger, twisted veins that may bulge and cause aching, swelling, heaviness, or cramping.

Compression stockings may reduce swelling, aching, and heaviness while they are worn. However, they do not repair damaged valves or permanently close a refluxing vein. A diagnostic evaluation can determine whether additional treatment is appropriate.

A duplex ultrasound uses sound waves to assess blood flow and identify valves that are not closing properly. The results help the vein doctor locate venous reflux and select an appropriate treatment.

Many insurance plans cover medically necessary vein treatment when symptoms, ultrasound findings, and plan requirements support coverage. Texas Vein Experts works with most major insurance plans and provides free insurance verification before treatment. Shavano
