Visible spider veins are sometimes treated as a cosmetic concern, but Willow Park residents with recurring swelling, aching, heaviness, cramping, itching, or bulging varicose veins may need a medical evaluation of the circulation itself. Same-day onsite duplex ultrasound can identify valves that are allowing blood to move backward and reveal which veins are increasing pressure in the lower leg. Varicose veins can form when weakened valves allow blood to flow backward and raise pressure inside the leg veins. The same circulation problem can contribute to swelling, heaviness, aching, itching, cramping, skin changes, and other symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency.
Willow Park has an estimated 7,439 residents, up about 38.9% from its 2020 population base. Approximately 5,542 residents are adults. Applying published adult prevalence estimates suggests that roughly 1,330 Willow Park adults may have visible varicose veins and about 333 may show evidence of more advanced chronic venous disease.

Cosmetic laser treatment can target selected visible vessels, but it does not answer whether a deeper refluxing vein is creating pressure underneath. When spider veins or varicose veins occur with aching, swelling, heaviness, or skin changes, medical evaluation can help determine whether the problem extends below the surface.
Duplex ultrasound maps the circulation before treatment when deeper disease is suspected. ClosureFast radiofrequency ablation and VenaSeal are options for selected larger refluxing veins. Varithena microfoam can treat certain varicose veins, while compounded sclerotherapy may be used for spider veins and smaller surface veins.
The goal is to match the procedure to the actual vein problem. Some Willow Park patients may need treatment for underlying reflux first and surface veins later, while others may only need targeted care for smaller visible vessels.

Sclerotherapy is commonly used for selected spider veins. A medical solution is injected into the vein so it closes and gradually fades. When symptoms suggest deeper venous disease, ultrasound may be recommended before surface treatment.
Spider veins are usually a surface or cosmetic concern. However, patients who also have swelling, aching, heaviness, skin changes, or larger varicose veins may benefit from evaluation for underlying venous reflux.
Spider veins can be influenced by genetics, aging, hormonal changes, pregnancy, prolonged sitting or standing, and increased pressure in the veins. They may occur on their own or alongside larger varicose veins.
Spider veins are smaller vessels near the skin and often look like fine red, blue, or purple lines. Varicose veins are larger, raised or twisted veins and are more likely to occur with aching, swelling, heaviness, or venous reflux.
Ultrasound can identify unhealthy valves and show whether a deeper vein is allowing blood to flow backward. This helps the vein doctor decide whether treating only the visible surface veins would leave the source of pressure untreated.
Treatment may include ClosureFast radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, Varithena microfoam, compounded sclerotherapy, or another minimally invasive option. The procedure is selected based on the affected veins, symptoms, and ultrasound findings.
